HAWICK ANNUAL BADMINTON TOURNAMENT PHOTO ARCHIVE

The following photographs were taken several years ago when Hawick staged it's own annual badminton tournament. Thanks to help from people like Alan Bailey, Margaret Spalding and Bill Murdie, who coached the game to youngsters at Trinity, Drumlanrig and Stirches primary schools respectively, Hawick has produced some fine badminton players over the years.

Regrettably the number of adult players participating in the sport of badminton in Hawick has continued to dwindle in recent years and Wilton is now the only Badminton Club in the town. Only a few years ago Hawick had 6 teams playing in 3 Border Leagues, Hawick held it's own tournament at senior and junior levels and even had it's own league comprising Wilton, Drumlanrig, Trinity, Burnfoot, Stirches, Denholm & Jedburgh. Although the sport has tended to die away in some areas of the Borders it is still very strong in other Border towns like Jedburgh & Duns where large numbers of youngsters are coached by enthusiastic coaches like John Peters & Myra Younger (Jedburgh) and Pete Hardie (Duns).

Here are a selection of photographs from the past. They have been placed on this page as 'thumbnail' pictures.
